Chinnakuppam Rehabilitation and Community Development Project is part of the Rural Development Projects of CMCT. Chinnakuppam is a small fishing hamlet in the Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu.
In 2004, when the tsunami struck, Chinnakuppam on the East Coast Road was severely affected. People lost lives, their homes and everything they held dear. CMCT set up a Welfare Centre, Creche, Sewing Centre, Community Hall and two toilet blocks. The work was completed in three years. Later, CMCT had to provide housing to 140 families. These houses were built following government specifications. The project was completed only in 2011 because of the various problems, finance being one of them, that arose.
Now, we have a full-time social worker in the village and three more social workers visit the village twice a week. The medical centre, tailoring and handicraft centre are efficiently run. Counselling is also given.
