This project provides a nutritious, hot mid-day meal to those from less privileged communities in and around Chennai. The aim is not only to alleviate hunger but also to care for the elderly who are neglected. It is a holistic approach and the areas of intervention are physical, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being. Regular health check-ups and hygiene awareness programmes are also organised. Through resource mobilisation and partnership with like-minded organisations, service has been enhanced.
The beneficiaries are inculcated with healthy habits, positive behaviour and attitude through spiritual well-being.
The Soup Kitchens function in seven locations, four are in Chennai – Chetpet, Kannigapuram, Kalyanapuram and Ezhil Nagar – and three on the outskirts of the city – two in Aalappakkam and one in Chinnakadalur. A total of 225 elderly people benefit from the Soup Kitchen.
